This area is extremely interesting from the ethnographic point of view, since it preserves a handicraft tradition that has been handed down from generation to generation. The Maragatería region has many traditions and its villages and towns preserve interesting examples of vernacular architecture. Castrillo de los Polvazares, declared Historic-Artistic Complex, is one of the most interesting villages in the area. The Camino de Santiago runs through the Maragatería region and, at one point, joins the trail to Monte Irago. The area, dominated by the town of Astorga, is full of textile mills, blacksmiths, pottery stores and family food industries.
