The region's rich larder contains a long list of traditional foods, closely linked to both conventional and modern cooking styles, which enable the visitor to taste dishes and wines of the highest quality.

Castilla y León is a Spanish leader in wine production, containing as it does nine Denominaciones de Origen (wines with Designation of Origin) and eight districts producing high quality wines. This wine sector is defined in great part by the river Duero

The Denominaciones de Origen of Ribera del Duero, Cigales, Rueda, Toro, Bierzo, Arlanza, Arribes, Tierras de León and Tierra del vino de Zamora comprise more than 400 bodegas producing superb wines. Besides these wine producers, there are the districts of "Vinos de la Tierra" - over two hundred wine growing areas distributed throughout the region, located in places of great historical and cultural value.

In Castilla y León, each district has retained its own particular gastronomic identity, backed by at least three generations of tradition and often many more. The time-honoured recipes of the region live alongside modern cooking styles (nueva cocina), both founded equally on the first-class products grown and reared throughout the region. Thanks to the rich landscape of Castilla y León and its fertile plains and valleys, each district has its own pantry from which it can offer the visitor an excellent and highly varied cuisine.
