The Jews of León lived on the outskirts of the city on the site of the Roman settlement known as Puente Castro, situated on La Mota hillside. The earliest mention of the city’s Jewish community dates back to the late 10th century, and in recent years archaeological excavations have uncovered a number of inscriptions, epitaphs and coins that today provide an insight into this period of the city’s history.

This route includes the following sites of interest: León Museum, León Cathedral, the Wet Area (Barrio Húmedo), the Church of San Martín, Plaza Mayor, Casa de las Carnicerías, Plaza de San Martín, Calle de Mulhacín, Jabalquinto Palace, the ancient synagogue, León’s Jewish Quarter, Calle Misericordia, Plaza de Santa María del Camino, the city walls, Calle de los Herreros, the Jewish cemetery, Prado de los Judíos, Moneda Gate, Puente Castro Jewish Quarter, the monolith in memory of the Jews, Puente Castro Jewish Cemetery and the Three Cultures Interpretation Centre.
