An insight into the history of energy
Ene. National Energy Museum
The museum, which provides an insight into energy-related themes from various aspects and points of view, has two principal and clearly differentiated spaces: 'Ene.Térmica' and 'Ene.Central'. The first section, 'Ene.Térmica', housed in a former power station, is dedicated to the relationship between coal and energy seen from technological and social perspectives.
'Ene Central', situated in the formers power station known as Compostilla I, is the largest part of the museum and houses two main exhibitions which consider energy in terms of its transformation and use. Other spaces include ‘Ene Parque' and 'Ene CO2', an experimental facility in El Bierzo created to research the various technologies involved in carbon dioxide capture.
The museum’s main infrastructure is the Central Site, housed in Compostilla I, a former power station that operated from 1949 to 1974 and played a key role in the area’s development.
