It was built in 1940 and is part of the trio of dams that control the mighty Pisuerga river that crosses Dueñas, in Palencia, or the city of Valladolid, before flowing into the Duero and after having been traveling 288 kilometers.

The reservoir of La Requejada is the first for which the abundant waters of Pisuerga are filtered. Due to its location, it is defined as a reservoir of high mountain, surrounded by forests of oak and suitable for almost all water sports, in which the motor navigation is included, and an ideal place for fishing of species like trout.
