The mountains have been venerated in the great religions as sacred places where man experiences the "tremendous and fascinating" of the Mystery. He raises his eyes and directs his steps seeking union with God. The mountains symbolize the summit of Divine Creation, the dwelling where revelation transcends, the place where men are called to meet Him and reach perfection.
Under the title 'Mons Dei', between May and November 2018, the exhibition by Aguilar de Campoo delves into the rich meaning of the mountain within the symbolic Christian tradition and the extensive religious history of humanity. A proposal of faith, art, nature, in that effort to convert each edition of The Ages of Man into a dialogue between Faith and Culture.
Few realities are capable of uniting God and men on the mountain like the Romanesque churches, trapped by time in the mountains of Palencia, which is why we add to this edition an epilogue: 'Ecclesia Dei', an invitation to also visit the environment and find shelter among its Romanesque temples.
The image of the poster leads our gaze across the valley towards the omnipresent peak. It is a detail of the work of the artist Eduardo Palacios made in table with mixed technique.
This new exhibition will be a unique opportunity to enjoy one of the best examples of cultural tourism in Spain, as witnessed by more than 11 million people who have visited the XXII previous editions of The Ages of Man.
In addition this appointment will allow you to enjoy the enormous Romanesque heritage of the northern area of ¿¿Palencia.
