Situated on the road between the mountains of Palencia and the plains of La Lora in Burgos, on the banks of the River Pisuerga.

Home to the Cantabrians, Romans and Visigoths, in the Middle Ages this was an important town, and traces of its medieval wall can still be seen today.

It boasts a rich heritage including the castle, the powerful Monastery of Santa María la Real, the Church of Santa Cecilia and the main square, backed by the Church of San Miguel, and the many palaces and noble houses that enjoy superb views of the river.
