It has two sections: the outside section is rather deteriorated and the interior contains three round turrets and a rectangular one. The turrets have the Fleur de Lis of the Cartagena family. Above the gate there is a sentry-box protecting the entrance. The various floors had carved wooden ceilings. On the western end, a string communicated the floors.

A small door on the northern end, next to the tower, led to the barbican. It was originally conceived as a fortified home by the aristocracy of the 15th century, more specifically by Don Pedro de Cartagena, a member of a family of converted Jews from Burgos: the Levís.
