In the center of the province of Soria, in an undulating landscape of moors full of history and singular beauty, there are two surprising and ecologically valuable natural spaces.

The Fuentona Natural Monument is considered one of the most beautiful places in the Soria territory. In the middle of a karst funnel, the crystalline waters of the underground currents emerge from about fifty meters deep, giving rise to the birth of the Abión River.

Around it grows a beautiful riverside forest that little by little gives way to juniper and pine forests, creating a landscape of extraordinary contrasts.

A short distance away, the Sabinar de Calatañazor Nature Reserve represents one of the best preserved forests of this nature on the planet, with specimens that exceed fourteen meters in height and an estimated age of almost two thousand years. In the nearby town of Muriel de la Fuente, halfway between Sabinar de Calatañazor and La Fuentona, stands the old palace of Santa Coloma, today converted into Casa del Parque.

The reception is installed at the base of the palatial tower, where all the information of interest is provided to get to know the territory and plan the different route alternatives. Without leaving the room you can watch an explanatory video of the Natural Space and an audiovisual with the history and restoration process of the palace.

In a first exhibition room, an excellent succession of information panels presents the area and places of relevant interest in a global way, including their particularities. An interactive device allows you to expand the information on specific aspects to better understand the ecosystems.

The next room leads to the underground world full of galleries through which the crystalline waters that spring from La Fuentona flow, learn about the wonders they hold and accompany a speleodiving team on an unforgettable journey through incredible photographs.

The expository discourse now takes us to the heart of the juniper forest. The fact that some of them are among the oldest in the world invites us to reflect on their role in shaping the landscape and in the adaptation of the inhabitants of these lands to obtain great help from them in the day to day. day. Through the panels and interactive participation it is possible to learn the secrets of the junipers, hear their crunches and smell their aroma.

In the memory corner, an informative video is projected in which a farmer, a rancher and a carpenter clearly explain how the natural resources of this territory have been traditionally exploited. Likewise, an expert chef will highlight the culinary secrets of the truffles and mushrooms that grow here and have achieved so much recognition.

The visit ends on the upper floor of the tower, from where you can enjoy a panoramic view of the entire surroundings of the Casa del Parque.
