In the north of the province of Palencia lies a territory of rugged mountains, pleasant valleys and little human intervention, which has favored the conservation of exceptional environmental conditions.

In terms of landscape, the Natural Park is of overwhelming beauty due to the variety of species that cover it, especially highlighting the Tejeda de Tosande, one of the oldest yew forests in Europe with specimens that are close to a thousand years old.

If the flora is rich, the fauna is no less so, which here concentrates a good number of Cantabrian endemisms such as the chamois or the piornal hare, although the most important representative is the brown bear that shares the territory with the Iberian wolf and the cat. mountain, among others.

This is also a territory of art and the Romanesque extends to every corner, giving rise to one of the most important and numerous manifestations in Europe, without forgetting the interesting popular architecture.

The town of Cervera de Pisuerga is one of the most important entrances to the natural space and is home to the Palencia Mountain Nature Park House. It provides all the necessary information to enjoy the many official trails, as well as the material and immaterial values that make the territory a special destination.

The first floor of the building is monographically dedicated to the Cantabrian brown bear as it is the emblematic animal of the Natural Park. An interesting audiovisual shows in detail the aspects that make this species a key element in environmental balance, while delving into the heart of the forest. The experience is completed with all the necessary information to know the biological characteristics of the Cantabrian brown bear and its differences with other brown bears, its customs and advice to follow in case of a chance encounter during an excursion.

Likewise, and due to the special vulnerability of the species, interesting information is provided on the resources and means aimed at constantly improving the management that safeguards it from extinction.

In the projection room of the Casa del Parque, at the end of the visit, an interesting informative video is projected that values, thanks to a spectacular tour of the territory, everything that gives it its genuine character.
