At the foot of the imposing mountains of Picos de Europa, one of the most beautiful Spanish landscapes where the waters are already heading to the Cantabrian Sea, a natural universe opens up that captivates the senses, a paradise in which ancestral traditions survive, such as the traditional council. Leonese, based on oral customary law as a form of secular self-government. In addition, a peculiar construction typology, based on the use of stone and wood with the granary as a hallmark, splashes a setting in its purest form rich in biodiversity, fragmented by mythical paths such as the Senda del Arcediano.

The multiple altitudes of the National Park, the first in Spain to be declared, presents large and varied forested areas, high mountain pastures for livestock use, challenging rocky outcrops, crystal clear waters and an idyllic animal world for every naturalist.

The Sajambre valley is a genuine lion stronghold fully integrated into the Picos de Europa National Park and in Oseja de Sajambre, its reference municipality, is the La Fonseya Visitor Center. Located in an imposing stone building that in the past served all types of uses, but was always a meeting point for those seeking to get to know the territory. Currently it is a space of integration thanks to the involvement of the residents of the area and the park staff itself. This is how the RaĆces Project was born, with which old photographs, information on traditional ways of life, more than three thousand place names of the valley have been recovered, and traditional uses have been mapped.

In addition, the center provides all the information necessary for a complete understanding of the National Park, thanks to the help of the Center's staff and its complete equipment.
