The Church of S. Miguel, originally of medieval design, was transformed and altered over the centuries, currently dominated by baroque and rococo elements. With the creation of the Diocese of Castelo Branco, in 1771, the Church of S. Miguel was elevated to the dignity of cathedral and was the subject of works in accordance with its new condition. The main chapel and its altarpiece date from 1785. This altarpiece and the chapel of the Santísimo were improved in 1791 with paintings by Pedro Alexandrino. The image of San Miguel stands out on the main façade.
