Guarda Cathedral
An imposing milestone in the history of Portuguese religious architecture, its construction took place between the end of the 14th century and the beginning of the 16th century. Capturing in the lace granite, the Gothic aesthetic, highly evident in the gargoyles and lace pinnacles, along with all the decorative profusion of the Manueline style, present in the gracefulness of the portal, impressing with the way in which it combines its own robustness of fortified churches with the beauty of decorative work. Inside, the monumental Mannerist altarpiece stands out, with about 110 images, representing episodes from the life of Christ, sculpted in Ançã stone and attributed to the great master of the Coimbra Renaissance, João de Ruão.
