The façade of the old cathedral of Coimbra, dated 1162, reflects the vitality of the Romanesque style. The Gothic cloister is the oldest of this style in Portugal. It has a notable collection of sculptures and bas-reliefs from the 12th, 14th and 16th centuries. Capela do Sacramento and Capela de S. Pedro, both from the 16th century, the first by João de Ruão, the second by Nicolau de Chanterenne. Also noteworthy is the so-called "Especiosa" Door from the 16th century, the work of João de Ruão.
