On a flatten hill, which is a perfect defensive place, you can observe the settlement of one of the most important cities of the Pre-Roman people of Cantabria. On it you can still see the remains of its walls. The Monte Bernorio archaeological site had fortifications, a fort and the necropolis in the South.

The Monte Bernorio castro in Pomar de Valdivia (Palencia), is one of the most extensive Iron Age sites in the entire Iberian Peninsula and Europe. The occupation of the nucleus of Monte Bernorio would extend continuously from the IX / VIII century BC. until the 1st century BC, the time of the Roman conquest. But the first occupation of which there are remains dates from the Chalcolithic (between 3000-2000 BC).
