Built in the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries by the Admirals of Castile
Castle of Simancas
A strategic location and site of castle that has stood here since the days of the Muslim invasion and which has been in the hands of both Moors and Christians.
Built in the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries by the Admirals of Castile, the powerful Enríquez family. It is owned by the Ministry of Culture and houses the General Archive of Simancas.
The roof clearly reflects the Herrerian influence. Work on the castle was completed in the 17th century by Pedro Mazuecos and Diego de Praves, both members of Valladolid’s School of Classicism.
