Throughout the weekend, the town of Sepúlveda is decked out to celebrate, once again, the Fiesta de los Fueros (Festival of the Fueros), reviving the atmosphere of the medieval market and filling its streets with color, magic, fire, history, and animation. This commemorates the Fuero granted to the town by Count Fernán González, confirmed by Alfonso VI of Castile in 1076, which embodied the law in Castilian Extremadura. Later expanded and codified in 1300, it was granted to other towns such as Zaragoza and Teruel. The territory in which the Fuero was in force was not only the town of Sepúlveda, but also extended into what was defined as the Community of Villa y Tierra de Sepúlveda, which still exists today and encompasses 39 municipalities corresponding to 52 towns.
