The Museum collects a wide and very complete sample of objects and belongings that represent the ways of life and traditions of the Tobalina Valley, in the region of Las Merindades (Burgos) and the rural world in general.

The Museum's funds are related to agricultural culture, both wine (chacolí) and cereal and other products of an autarkic agriculture. They are also represented with their own tools all trades that covered the needs of the population, as well as religion, school, games, traditional medicine ...

In addition to the conservation and dissemination of the culture and ways of life of our ancestors, the Museum collaborates in research projects within the university environment, in the publishing of books, and with various press media both specialized and general.

In tribute to the challenges faced by our ancestors with their ingenuity, effort and sacrifice, the Museum exhibits trades, in practice already missing, and are carried out by the last professionals who are active or are already retired.

BUILDING

The museum complex is divided into two separate spaces:

  • Ethnographic Museum. Located in a building of excellent invoice and example of rural architecture of the early nineteenth century that was intended to store the products of an important farmer. The building consists of winery, cellar, barn and haystack.
The winery and the cellar are preserved just as they were 200 years ago, with the vats, the press and all the equipment of the wine activity.
The barn collects the recreation of a typical house from the beginning of the 20th century with all its profusely equipped rooms.
The haystack, located in the upper part, hosts the trades of the rural world as well as school, religion, traditional games for adults and children ...

  • Museum of Agricultural Machinery. It is installed in an upcoming era in which two covered areas built with the traditional woodworking technique have been built. In these areas the own agricultural machinery of the 1st half of the 20th century is exposed. The uncovered area is home to the "live agricultural museum" in which all traditional products are planted and visitors can appreciate the different growth states according to the moment they visit.
