Upon entering the church of Santa María de La Bañeza, no one can imagine the wooden treasure that is hidden behind the vault of its central nave. And since the Baroque arrived in the Spanish arts in the 17th century, carpentry work began to lose prominence in favor of plaster vaults and domes, which were considered more in line with the tastes of the moment and "beautiful a lot." building", as Friar Lorenzo de San Nicolás notes in his Art and use of Architecture.

But the need to support the weight of the roofs and form slopes to evacuate the waters meant that roof reinforcements continued to be used, either through simple models of new construction or by reusing old ones whose decorative richness would from then on be hidden behind the plaster. .
