The origins of this event, also known as the Festivity of the ‘Santito’ (Little Saint), are rooted in the pilgrimage that Saint Dominic of Guzmán (the ‘Little Saint’) made as a child in the company of his mother, the Blessed Joanna of Aza, from Caleruega to the Shrine of La Virgin de Castro (situated in the ruins of the Roman city of Clunia).
