" The Life of Lazarillo de Tormes and his Fortunes and Adversities ", better known as "Lazarillo de Tormes", a novel published in the 16th century (1554) and of unknown authorship, is one of the greatest works of Spanish literature, which gave rise to the genre known as the "picaresque novel".
The aim is to maintain the popular and folkloric background of the original, as well as the beauty of the linguistic expression. Lázaro de Tormes, who at the time of the performance is the wine crier of the Archpriest of San Salvador, recounts his "mischief" in an attempt to justify his life, while also creating an entertaining portrait of the society of his time. The comedy and audience connection are present in the production, without neglecting the literary quality of the text.
Lázaro, a town crier by trade, is a man of easy and calm speech, a natural "stager."
The text is a critique of the Spanish society of its time, composed mostly of passive classes: the blind beggar, the cleric, the ruined nobleman, the bullfighter, the bailiff, the archpriest...
