Excavations in the late Roman cemetery of Simancas, in the mid-1930s, revealed a peculiar type of knife with a sheath, which is known in archaeological literature by the name of this site.
The knife's blade is made of iron and has a single curved edge that describes an S-shape, which is evident on the outside of the sheath. The edge also usually has a characteristic notch at the top.
Although these daggers were thought to have a military nature, for hand-to-hand combat, today they are considered to have been used more for hunting.
The guided tour of the piece of the month will be on September 5th at 12:00 noon.
Free activity, no reservation required.
