This conference is part of the Castilian-Leonese Institute of Language's initiatives to highlight and strengthen contemporary literary production in our region. After successfully addressing current narrative and giving a voice to young storytellers from Castilla y León, it is pertinent to extend this outreach efforts to the poetry genre, which is key to understanding the richness and complexity of the current literary landscape.
Castilla y León is a land of poets. From the Generation of '98 to the present day, poetry has been a privileged form of expression for narrating the landscape, time, memory, and emotion. Our region boasts a long list of writers who have won the highest honors in Hispanic literature, such as the Cervantes Prize and the Castilla y León Literature Prize. Poets such as Jorge Guillén, José Jiménez Lozano, Antonio Gamoneda, and Luis Mateo Díez have transformed the poetic word into an instrument of depth and truth.
Today, this tradition is being revived by authors of great prominence and literary quality such as Juan Antonio González Iglesias, María Ángeles Pérez López, Tomás Sánchez Santiago, and Fermín Herrero, whose book Sin ir más lejos (Without Going Any Further ) was awarded the Critics' Prize.
The Lyre of the Muses cycle was created with the aim of bringing this poetic vitality closer to the entire territory, disseminating its keys, enjoying its verses, and reclaiming poetry as a necessary language, also in our time.
Fermín Herrero Redondo (Soria, 1963). Graduated in Hispanic Philology from the University of Zaragoza. Winner of the Castilla y León Literature Prize (2014) and the Critics' Prize for Sin ir más lejos (Without Going Any Further ). His work, comprising some twenty poetry books, has been distinguished with the most prestigious awards in national poetry and has been published mainly by Hiperión. Titles such as Tierras altas ( Highlands), Tempero (Temperature ) and La gracia (Gratitude) stand out for their refined language and their deep understanding of the human and natural landscape of Castile.
He collaborates as a literary critic in media such as ABC Castilla y León , La sombra del ciprés (El Norte de Castilla), Archipiélago , El Ciervo , and Turia . He also participates in the literary event "The Lyre of the Muses. Current Poetry of Castilla y León," a series coordinated and presented by the Soria poet Fermín Herrero.
