On Friday, November 28th, at 6:30 p.m., Ana Villanueva Fernández will present her book.
"Time of Women" is not just a book: it is an essential vindication of the place that history denied to the women of León for centuries. With the precision of a historian and the sensitivity of an artist, Ana Villanueva recovers the voices of those who, with their talent, knowledge, or courage, shaped the various spheres of social and cultural life in Leon, but whose memory was silenced or relegated to oblivion.
Each chapter profiles a female archetype and reveals the complexity of their lives, often judged or distorted by deeply patriarchal cultural frameworks. The pages are thus imbued with academic rigor, but also with the narrative drive of someone seeking to understand and do justice.
Alongside the text, the author offers a masterful visual contribution: a series of artistic portraits conceived as an emotional extension of the words. These are not mere illustrations, but rather artistic interpretations that capture the inner strength and spirit of each protagonist. Villanueva acknowledges that "drawing them was more difficult than writing about them," and this difficulty translates into images imbued with aesthetic and human truth.
Ana Villanueva (Leon, PhD in Historical and Artistic Heritage from the University of Leon) combines her teaching work with a distinguished artistic career under the name Ana Newvillage. She has participated in national and international exhibitions and collaborated with prestigious institutions such as Patrimonio Nacional (National Heritage).
"Time of Women" is, ultimately, an act of memory and art. A necessary tribute to those who, from invisibility, built an essential part of León's legacy and who today reclaim their place thanks to Ana Villanueva's committed and sensitive perspective.
Free admission until full capacity.
