Its construction began at the end of the 18th century. Around 1905, it was acquired by Aquilino Barcia and his wife Inés Rodríguez, residents of Tejedo de Ancares, for 12,000 duros. In 1953, the Barcia family sold it for 350,000 pesetas to its current owners. In 2018, an agreement was signed between the current owners and the Valle de Ancares Town Council for the transfer of its use, with the aim of its restoration, promotion, and enhancement.

Operation

The ironworks, or "iron factory," was a place where iron was obtained from raw ore. This ironworks used the power of a waterfall to operate the hammer and the air supply system.

A dam captured some of the river's water and diverted it to the canal that carried it to the ironworks. The final section of the canal widened to act as a regulating reservoir, or "banzado," for the flow to the ironworks. The final part consisted of the "banzadillo," a loading tank beneath which the waterwheels were located. The bottom of the "banzadillo" had small holes, or "chiflón," for the water to flow onto the blades of the wheels. The amount of water falling on the wheel was regulated from inside the ironworks by a lever. Finally, once the water had served its purpose of powering the wheels, it flowed through the "estolda" drainage channel back to the river.
