Isabel Mellén shows that these images were part of the ideology of the time, linked to the power, fertility, and lineage of the elites who financed the churches. The book dismantles the idea of a puritanical Middle Ages and explains how sexuality was a visible and symbolic element in social and religious life.
Isabel Mellén is a philosopher and art historian specializing in Romanesque art and gender perspectives. She researches the role of women in the development of Romanesque art and disseminates information on medieval history and culture.
