A Valladolid se le ha concedido, popularmente, el honor de ser la ciudad donde mejor se habla el castellano, título que hoy comparte con el resto de provincias de Castilla y León, y que tiene su origen en la Corte del siglo XV. Los ilustrados y estudiosos de aquella época contribuyeron a la difusión e impulso de una lengua modélica y depurada. A ellos se suman las mejores plumas de la literatura española, que encontraron en esta ciudad su lugar de inspiración.

Hoy en día la Universidad de Valladolid continúa siendo pieza clave en la difusión del castellano.

En el recorrido por Valladolid, algunas calles recuerdan el mundo de la literatura en sus nombres. Para quien realice la ruta, es visita obligada la Casa Natal de José Zorrilla y la de Miguel de Cervantes, donde probablemente escribiera una de sus obras universales, ‘El Coloquio de los Perros’.
