The Castilian and Leonese Institute of Language and the Salamanca City Council are promoting the performance of the play "The Never-Ending Story " by the Azar Teatro company on Friday, December 19th at 7:00 p.m. at the Casa de las Conchas Public Library in Salamanca. The play is a portrait of the writer Carmen Martín Gaite, an author who opened many doors previously closed to women and who, through her literary work, revealed the many facets hidden behind seemingly ordinary lives. The premiere is part of the events programmed for the institutional commemoration of the centenary of the Salamanca-born author.

Directed by Javier Esteban and starring actress Mercedes Asenjo, this production is conceived as a tribute to this incredible author from Salamanca, recreating her life and selecting different excerpts from her extensive work, as if it were a short literary biography narrated by herself. In her play, the audience witnesses some of the most important events and moments of her life, such as her relationship with her husband, the writer Rafael Sánchez Ferlosio, and other writers of the time, the loss of her two children, the complex relationship with her daughter, and her refusal to become a member of the Royal Spanish Academy.

Carmen Martín Gaite is an iconic figure of great importance in 20th-century Spanish literature, who skillfully cultivated all literary genres: short story, theater, novel, essay, and poetry.
