THE LOAVES AND THE FISHES

Two grandsons. Two brothers. Both torn apart by a cursed inheritance. Their fate sealed by the death of one of them. A generation that no longer lives where it grew up, that has forgotten how to wait, that seeks answers in its roots: Have the inhabitants of rural Spain been buried under stones? Does it take the same number of months for a tomato to ripen as it does for a man to go tuna fishing at sea? Can a ship navigate the land the same way a threshing sledge does? This is, quite simply, a tribute to our elders, those who inhabit the countryside and the sea.

We are experiencing a surge of interest in tradition and a golden age in the revaluation of folk knowledge. In this impersonal social climate, we can look to folk wisdom for the keys to reversing course in various aspects where we feel "more advanced," but from which we have much to learn. The frenetic pace of society is forcing us to distance ourselves from our roots, leading to a serious and increasing depopulation of rural areas and a distortion of our customs. This project does not seek to fall into clichés or the melancholy of an idyllic past that never existed; rather, it is a journey that acknowledges and does not forget the efforts of Castilian farmers and Cantabrian sailors.
