Drama directed by Sidney Lumet in 1982 and starring Paul Newman and Charlotte Rampling

Frank Galvin, a washed-up lawyer, is a struggling alcoholic who scrapes by with odd jobs. A former partner reminds him of an unsolved medical malpractice case he handled at a hospital. Returning to professional work isn't easy, but his determination soon leads him to believe he can win the case. He starts receiving offers to settle out of court. But Galvin is prepared to risk everything, both to secure substantial compensation for the victims' families and to redeem himself as a lawyer and as a person.

According to critics, it is "an intelligent, entertaining, and suspenseful film (...) It is one of Newman's best roles, and his performance is among the most astute and substantial he has ever given."
