Julián is alone. For the past eight weeks, he's been making jokes on the phone, painting—but not much—and talking. He talks a lot. He talks to his wife, who's no longer there, but still is. Julián measures time by the sound the workshop door makes when it goes up and down. Julián thinks. Julián realizes that loneliness is like the fingernails of the dead, which grow even when there is no more life. Yes, Julián is alone.
This monologue was born with two aims: to be bittersweet and to speak, like its protagonist, about everything that surrounded life before facing emptiness. To speak as medicine, as a way to heal pain through words. To speak as a paradox because when you are alone you need someone to talk to, someone who isn't there and who reminds you that you are alone. A joke, isn't it?
