Context
Original ballet premiered in 1870, inspired by a story by Hoffmann, with music by Léo Delibes.

The young Franz, who sees it every day through his window, falls in love with it, arousing the jealousy of Swanilda, who cannot remain silent. When she discovers the deception, she decides to take revenge, ridiculing and fueling the fantasies of all those who venerate the automaton.
