Conference: "The lyre of the muses: Contemporary poetry from Castilla y León"

In charge of Fermin Herrero

Tuesday, March 3rd, 7:00 PM.

This conference is part of the initiatives of the Castilian and Leonese Institute of Language to raise awareness and strengthen contemporary literary production in our region. Having successfully addressed current narrative and given a voice to young writers from Castilla y León, it is fitting to extend this outreach to poetry, a key genre for understanding the richness and complexity of the current literary landscape.

Castilla y León is a land of poets. This tradition is currently being renewed by authors of great renown and literary quality such as Juan Antonio González Iglesias, María Ángeles Pérez López, Tomás Sánchez Santiago, and Fermín Herrero.

The Lyre of the Muses cycle was created with the purpose of bringing this poetic vitality closer to the whole territory, disseminating its keys, enjoying its verses and vindicating poetry as a necessary language, also in our time.

Fermín Herrero Redondo (Soria, 1963) holds a degree in Hispanic Philology from the University of Zaragoza. He received the Castilla y León Literature Prize (2014) and the Critics' Prize for his book * Sin ir más lejos * (Without Going Any Further). His work, comprising some twenty books of poetry, has been distinguished with the most prestigious awards in Spanish poetry and has been published primarily by Hiperión. Titles such as *Tierras altas* (Highlands), *Tempero* (Temper), and *La agradecer* (Gratitude) stand out for their refined language and profound understanding of the human and natural landscape of Castile.
