Sebastian, a young and idealistic reporter fresh out of university, wants to photograph the world's most disadvantaged places to shake the complacent consciences of the West. But he can't sell a single photo. Until chance leads him to take the first and most iconic photograph of a then-relatively unknown warlord named Osama Bin Laden, riding a horse, wearing cream-colored robes, and carrying an AK-47. Just three years later, after the September 11 attacks on the Twin Towers in New York, Sebastian is catapulted to fame: he is one of the very few journalists who has come face to face with the terrorist. But fame, money, and a comfortable life make him forget his cherished ideals, and he ends up becoming a photographer of celebrities in exchange for large sums of money, surrendering to the vulgarity of Western culture.
Meanwhile, in the Syrian city of Homs, an anonymous teenage graffiti artist, NO NAME, who has lost her father to the Bashar al-Assad regime, fights with every fiber of her being and with all her art to overthrow the regime and improve living conditions in her beloved homeland. Her artistic growth, her fear, her courage, her discovery of love, her unwavering commitment to her artistic and political ideals, and her fight, to the bitter end, for a better world are all cut short when, due to an unexpected pregnancy and the war in her country, she is forced to abandon it in search of a better future for her unborn child aboard a boat in the Mediterranean in a desperate attempt to reach Europe.
