The language of comics is universally understood. By sequentially combining graphic signs, some logical, others symbolic, comic book artists are able to convey the most complex sequences and messages through the medium of drawing alone. This hands-on talk, which will include audience participation, aims to explore how image sequences work and why we can understand them without any formal instruction, drawing on the work of artists such as Charles Schultz, Chris Ware, Frank Miller, Nicholas Gurewitz, María Medem, Magius, and Irene Márquez.
