The Piedralaves Rural Home hosts from March 25 to April 27 the exhibition Under the Pen of a Woman, an exhibition project produced by the Castilian and Leonese Institute of Language Foundation and the Unamuno House-Museum of the University of Salamanca, programmed in this cultural facility with the collaboration of the Avila Provincial Council and the Piedralaves City Council.
This exhibition project is based on research undertaken by the University of Salamanca on a large selection of letters sent by women writers and intellectuals of the period to Miguel de Unamuno in the first third of the 20th century. These letters are housed and preserved at the Unamuno House-Museum in Salamanca. Professors Maribel Rodríguez Fidalgo and Adriana Paíno (University of Salamanca) and Ana Chaguaceda Toledano, director of the Unamuno House-Museum, are the curators of this exhibition, which complements their research on this correspondence.
The exhibition includes a wealth of valuable and previously unknown documentary material. It offers a glimpse into the role of women during that era, the societal changes taking place, a look at the cultural and political leaders of the time, and the multitude of vital concerns they all wished to share with the renowned thinker. Beneath the lines of these letters, a particular image of Miguel de Unamuno also emerges, revealed through the responses his emissaries sought from him.
