WHAT IS A DIORAMA?

A diorama is a model that simulates, as realistically as possible, an event, a natural or urban landscape in three dimensions, and can be of very diverse sizes. To facilitate its transport, the most common size is that which allows it to pass through a door (70-80 cm wide).

The name diorama comes from the Greek words dio (through) and orama (sight), already used in 1822 by the French photographer and first popularizer of photography and inventor of the daguerreotype, Louis-Jacques-Mandé Daguerre. (8/11/1787 - 10/7/1851)

CHRISTMAS DIORAMAS

The custom of setting up nativity scenes in Spain became popular in the second half of the 18th century thanks to King Charles III, who introduced the Neapolitan tradition upon bringing it to the Spanish throne. From then on, the nobility and high society families, and shortly thereafter the general public, began to create their own nativity scenes in a format that has been used ever since. At the beginning of the 20th century, the diorama format was added, created in 1912 by the Catalan set designer Antonio Moliné, a member of the Barcelona Nativity Scene Association. This format became popular in the mid-20th century throughout various Spanish and European regions.
