ACTIVITY ON EUROPEAN DAY OF HISTORIC GARDENS IN THE BÉJAR FOREST (SALAMANCA) APRIL 29, 2026.

The Historic Garden "El Bosque de Béjar" is part of the European Historic Gardens Cultural Route. April 26th is European Historic Gardens Day, and therefore, a series of activities have been proposed for April 29th , close to that date, to raise awareness among students of different educational levels about the importance of their preservation.

This year's theme, for the Association's tenth anniversary, is "Historic Gardens Cultivate Europe." A technical seminar on the archaeological research carried out in El Bosque will be held, along with an interactive tour for groups of university students and professors.

There will also be a children's workshop that will introduce the European countries and historic gardens that are part of the Cultural Route.

Activity details:

  1. Conference on Archaeological Research in El Bosque de Béjar (Salamanca): Application of New Technologies. Presentation of Results and Interactive Workshop.
  2. Children's workshop: "Gardens make Europe grow" . Identifying countries on the Route and participating gardens using puzzle pieces.

Venue: El Bosque de Béjar Historic Garden, Palacete

Date and time: April 29, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Target audience: University students, technicians and interested people, primary school students.

Description of activities:

  1. Over the past few years, archaeological investigations have been carried out in the formal garden, the orchard, and the Dye Pond, revealing the garden's construction evolution with the support of new technologies and geophysical methods. A technical workshop is planned to present the results, with the participation of students and professors from the University of Salamanca, the Faculty of Translation and Documentation, Museography and Heritage, and other professionals in the field of cultural heritage.
  2. A scavenger hunt will be organized to find pieces of a puzzle depicting the countries and historical gardens that are part of the Cultural Route. The final assembly will be a collaborative effort between the participating schoolchildren.

Target: University students, schoolchildren, adults, local associations, technicians.

Description of the activity:

  1. Over the past four years, various investigations have been carried out in areas such as the formal garden, the orchard, and the dye pond, revealing the historical evolution and chronology of the garden through surveys and geophysical methods. A technical workshop is planned to present the results of this research, with the participation of students and professors from the University of Salamanca's Faculty of Translation and Documentation, Museography and Heritage, and other educational institutions in Béjar, as well as professionals in the field of cultural heritage. The workshop will also analyze the garden's similarities to other European examples.
  2. A gymkhana will be held in the garden to find puzzle pieces depicting European countries with historic gardens included in the Cultural Route, using images of these gardens. The puzzle will then be assembled collaboratively by all participants.
