" There is in painting, in the picture, however finished, however accomplished it may be, a constant state of becoming ." This is how María Zambrano, from exile, approaches painting. Adolfo Álvarez Barthe, author of The Beauty of the Figurative, would like to offer a kind of guide to understanding why the figurative prefers to inhabit where everything is perceived as entirely visible and, at the same time, without yet finding its definitive form.
It is like that riddle that, in the field of literature, some children gave to Homer to refer to poetry: " Now that I have passed I am what I was not; when I am passing I am not what I am ."

Adolfo Álvarez Barthe (Leon, 1964) has held more than 50 solo exhibitions and participated in over 100 group exhibitions, including several international art fairs in Spain, Italy, and Belgium. In 2002, the Vela Zanetti Foundation in Leon dedicated a retrospective exhibition to him entitled " The Theater of Memory ." In 2010, the León Institute of Culture organized a retrospective exhibition entitled " Pervivencias " (Survivals). In 2017 , the Casa de América in Madrid exhibited his series " The House of Austria and America ." In 2018, he showed his series " Simurg " at the Merayo Foundation . He has regularly published articles in the Revista Hispanocubana . He is the author of Luis Sáenz de la Calzada: A Biographical Essay (Eolas, 2018) and Luis Sáenz de la Calzada: A Pictorial Analysis (Eolas, 2020). His latest traveling exhibitions have been " Pilgrim Zodiac" and " The Divine Comedy Illustrated ".
