What use are the humanities in this world without them?

Speaker: Dr. Fernando Gomez Herrero.

The humanities, ever restless, grapple with significant processes, question diverse perspectives, interrogate official truths, revise preconceived ideas, contribute new ones, embrace surprise and uncertainty, accept debate with ease, and never succumb to narrow-minded localism or foolish nationalism. The best humanities tend to challenge the orthodoxies of yesterday and today and say "no" to established powers. We will examine burning and unavoidable issues in relation to three fundamental plurals: history, language, and international relations. We will place the immediate context of Salamanca, Castile, and Spain within a broader international framework that is currently turbulent and uncertain.
