The story of Juan, the son of farmers, half hedgehog, half boy. His mother adores him, but his father feels they are the laughingstock of the village, because besides being odd , his son behaves like an animal and is incapable of learning good manners. Juan grows up feeling different and is ostracized at school. He spends most of his time among the animals on his parents' farm, playing the clarinet and singing. One day he decides to leave home, riding on his rooster and disappearing into the trees of the forest.

Years later, the king of a neighboring kingdom gets lost in the forest and seeks help at the burrow where Juan lives. Juan not only invites him to eat and entertains him with his clarinet, but also shows him the way home. He asks only one thing in return: that, after a year and a day, the king give him a reward to the first person who greets him upon his return. The king agrees, thinking he will be greeted by his dog. However, his daughter goes out to meet him, and when the time has passed, Juan appears to collect his reward. During one of their encounters, the princess sees Juan remove his quills. He confesses to her that he is under a spell and that she can break the spell if she doesn't tell anyone his secret for three days.

Will the princess be able to keep the secret? Will Juan want to become human, or will he have learned to accept himself? Will the princess learn to accept Juan as he is?
