Paul Sheldon, a successful writer, is involved in a car accident while driving in a snowstorm. Days later, he wakes up at the home of Annie Wilkes, the woman who rescued him. Fortunately for Paul, Annie is a nurse, so she offers to help him recover from his injuries. She also confesses to being Paul's biggest fan of the Misery Chastain series of novels. After several days under Annie's care, Paul begins to wonder if he's really in good hands.
