The PORTUCALE Cultural and Gastronomic Association will hold a commemorative event in Zamora to mark the anniversary of the Treaty of Zamora of 1143.

The event will consist of the screening of the documentary "Guided Visit. Zamora on the Journey of D. Afonso Henriques " , by Portuguese Radio and Television (RTP), with Paula Moura Pinheiro and the historian from the University of Porto , Luís Carlos Amaral (with remote participation).

The medievalist, Luís Carlos Amaral, guides us through the importance of Zamora in Afonso Henriques's path to establishing the independent kingdom of Portugal. It was in Zamora , more than 900 years ago, that the young prince was knighted, thus beginning his public life; the year was 1125. And it was in Zamora that, 18 years later, in 1143, Emperor Alfonso VII first appointed Afonso Henriques king. A vassal king, but undoubtedly a king nonetheless.

With this initiative, PORTUCALE seeks to promote knowledge of Portuguese culture and history , as well as to foster spaces for cultural encounters in the city.

This activity is part of the association's objectives to bring Portuguese culture closer to the public and keep alive the historical memory of an event that symbolizes the struggle for freedom and democracy.
