On Thursday, October 8 , at 7:00 p.m. , in the Auditorium of the Public Library of Palencia , the presentation of the book What am I doing here by Benjamín Prado will take place, a literary meeting in which the author will talk with Concha Lobejón.

Benjamín Prado Rodríguez was born in Madrid on July 13, 1961. He is a prominent Spanish poet, novelist, essayist, and lyricist. Considered one of the most influential and recognizable voices in contemporary Spanish culture, his work is distinguished by its great sensitivity and a personal style that moves fluidly between high literature and popular culture. Throughout his career, he has successfully cultivated various literary genres.

His poetic work has earned him prestigious awards such as the Hyperion Prize (1995) or the Generation of '27 International Poetry Prize. Collected in volumes such as Ecuador, Iceberg or It's Not Too Late.

As a novelist, his first work Raro (1995) was a great success and among his best-known titles are Mala gente que camina (2006), Operación Gladio (2011), Los dos reyes (2022) and El anillo del general (2024).

He has also written the lyrics for many songs, working closely with great musicians, especially Joaquín Sabina —with whom he collaborated closely on albums and the book Even the Truth (2017)—, as well as collaborating with artists such as Amaia Montero or the group Pereza.

In 2026, the writer published his memoirs entitled What Am I Doing Here (Alfaguara), a work in which he reviews several decades of Spanish cultural history through his travels, anecdotes and his close relationship with great figures of letters such as Camilo José Cela, Almudena Grandes, Javier Marías or Gabriel García Márquez.
