Jamal Malik (Dev Patel) is a poor teenager from the slums of Mumbai who participates in the Indian version of the popular show "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?". On the verge of winning 20 million rupees, the show's top prize, the young man is questioned by the police, who suspect him of cheating. But for every question, Jamal has an answer.
