On Thursday, December 3rd, at 6 p.m. with Aurora Rustarazo.
Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS) is a rare disease with a complex genetic clinical expression that affects multiple body systems. It is considered the most common genetic cause of obesity. It manifests at birth as muscle weakness (neonatal hypotonia), leading to feeding difficulties in newborns. Later, they develop hyperphagia with a lack of satiety. Therefore, they need to consume fewer calories than normal and must always follow a strict calorie-restricted diet with regular physical activity to avoid developing life-threatening obesity.
The management of this syndrome should be multidisciplinary, involve early intervention, and be tailored to each affected individual and their family. These individuals are hypersensitive and have difficulty controlling their emotions. Frustrations related to their illness are partly responsible for the behavioral disturbance.
Aurora Rustarazo holds a degree in Psychology from the University of Granada, with master's degrees in Clinical and Health Psychology, conflict mediation and intervention in special education.
She works as a psychologist for the Spanish Association for Prader-Willi Syndrome, offering guidance, information and support to families and patients.
Free admission until full capacity.
