A fortified settlement looking for the natural protection of Sierra de Gredos, settled here. It got to have more than 3000 inhabitants. It had a wall of 2 km in length and between 2 and 3 m in width as protection.

The wall was ordered to demolish by Romans, who forced the Vettones to forsake the village. Nowadays a part of the wall and the structures of many houses can be seen, following a path with educational signs.

Some cave paintings can also be seen in the way that goes from Castro de El Raso to ‘Collado Braguillas’.
