For centuries, Almanza was a walled town, with its fortress, moats, and guard posts. The settlement was surrounded by a lime and stone fence that stood out for its thickness and solidity. Currently, remains of a 13th century stone pointed arch are still preserved, as well as the Castle-Palace, framed with cubes in its masonry corners. The enclave was the scene of countless and legendary battles, constituting a historical vestige that outlines the physiognomy of this town located at the foot of the Picos de Europa.
