It is estimated that it was built before 1446 by members of the Escobar family, lords of the town. Later they sold it to the Pimentel, Counts of Benavente, in the middle of the XV century. From this moment the castle undergoes a progressive decline that will only be partially mitigated, thanks to some restorations carried out in the 19th century.

From this castle, now in ruins, the exterior masonry walls are conserved, which define a quadrangular plan and a central span on the west wall with a semicircular arch whose dovelage and jambs are made of ashlar masonry. The wall partly preserves the castellation and a row of arrow slits. You can also see the start of the keep.
