Located on top of a hill, the castle dominates the village and the bridge that crosses the Douro River. San Esteban de Gormaz emerged as a fortified plaza for its strategic importance in the defensive line of the Duero, 10th century, being the field of numerous battles.

Castle of Muslim origin, long and narrow base, was reformed by the Christians later. The construction was made with carved ashlars, probably of Roman origin. There remains a wall of canvas raised to lead on a rocky vertical cliff and impossible to climb. In its interior you can still see remains of rooms, cisterns and silos. Despite the few remains that remain, it has a significant importance and from there you can see the castle of Gormaz with the naked eye.
